Associate Product Manager

This position is for an associate to assist in a robust, holistic approach to Product Management that will address all aspects of a Product. The candidate will help in the management of several product across several segments within the solar industry. The position requires a strong multi-faceted team member. Some background or experience in financials, product development, and planning are essential to success in this position. The candidate will need to demonstrate capabilities in the responsibilities and skill-sets mentioned below. The candidate will need to adhere to and promote Unirac values and mission by performing job responsibilities in a manner that is consistent with being a team player and supporting the continuing objectives of the company.

This position will participate in cross-departmental teams or projects. This position also may be called on to interact with customers. This individual also may interact with others within their profession and within the industry.

Duties and Responsibilities

The primary role of the Associate Product Manager is to assist the Product Management group in the duties below.

Product Strategy & Life Cycle:

  • Develop the long-term product strategy and lifecycle plan.
  • Understanding business concepts and models (PEST, SWOT, Porter’s Five Forces, etc.) used for strategic planning and development would be beneficial
  • Develop a well thought-out, cohesive strategy and create content for the executive team to review and discuss for final approval.
  • Successfully manage a new product through the process by providing the described deliverables and achieving the criteria.

Product / Segment Market Analysis

  • Research and understand market conditions and competitive positions.
  • Comfortable estimating and making educated assumptions to create market forecasting of volume and financials based on data and good judgment.
  • In-depth analytical skills for making rationale assessments of the market, customers, and competitors.

Financials

  • Understand, calculate, and apply basic financial concepts (examples: gross margin, EBIT, etc.) for a product line.
  • Able to evaluate financial decisions such as capital expenditures (NPV).

Business Case Development

  • Create a business case addressing company fit, financials, barriers to market entry (commercial and technical), value proposition fit with the customer, and time to market.
  • Conduct primary research on competitive products.

Voice of Customer

  • Conduct primary research with customers, to understand their job sites, their business environment, etc. Participate in installations, conduct time studies, and make observations of installation practices that can drive product evolutions or other solutions Unirac can bring to market.
  • Use both quantitative and qualitative methods to gather and evaluate customer feedback.

Product Value Proposition / Positioning / Marketing

  • Determine value proposition and customer fit, how much unique / differentiated value is generated by the product line.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to develop messaging and collateral.
  • Collaborate with Sales & Marketing to develop Go-to-Market launch strategy.

Technical Literature

  • Support the creation of technical literature by working with the various technical teams and marketing to create the content and publish the necessary technical documentation of the product.

Intellectual Property

  • Basic working knowledge of Intellectual Property concepts (patent infringement, patentability of a product, etc.)
  • Collaborate with patent agent on an initial assessment of the organization’s freedom to operate and patent ability of invention.

Product Training

  • Develop and provide effective product training to Sales and the broader organization.
  • Assist Sales in creating product training programs for customers. Conduct hands on product installation training for sales and with customers.

Product Development Engineer

We are seeking a product development engineer with a proven track record of success. Product development engineers at Unirac work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to develop products that exceed our customer requirements with a strong focus on cost-control, manufacturability, and innovation.

Product development engineers apply principles of engineering to evaluate new and existing products, utilizing state of the art tools and physical testing methods. Creativity is fostered by a product development process that includes many points of internal and external feedback to ensure that design goals are accurate, and the final products are a success. As a Senior Product Development Engineer, you will be expected to provide project and technical leadership (meeting project schedule targets and product functional, performance, and cost requirements). A Senior PD Engineer is also expected to provide leadership and guidance to less experienced engineers.

Duties and Responsibilities

New Product Design and Development:

  • Innovate, conceive, design, engineer and develop new products and/or improve existing products.
  • Calculate and design for optimized system-level costs for new products
  • Create prototypes in the conception and development of new products and document results in engineering and/or test reports
  • Investigate new technologies, tools, and processes and make recommendations for adoption as appropriate

Product Engineering:

  • Engineer products in accordance with appropriate regulatory requirements and associated standards, such as model building and electrical codes, ASCE 7, aluminum or steel design manuals, ASTM standards, etc.
  • Select appropriate materials for applications, considering strength, deflection, cost, finish, corrosion, friction, etc.
  • Engineer products considering techniques such as design for manufacturability, assembly, reliability
  • Develop product acceptance criteria and test plans.
  • Document product designs, engineering, test results and engineering changes in engineering reports

Project Management and Technical Leadership:

  • Technical leadership including identification and application of appropriate engineering analyses and methods
  • Develop and lead on-time execution of product development project plans
  • Ensure goals, schedules, cost targets, and budgets are met
  • Maintain working knowledge of customer requirements and competitor trends
  • Create presentations and present engineering designs and changes
  • Coordinate, communicate, interact and provide technical support to other functional groups in the execution of product development projects

Skill Requirements
  • At least 5 years of experience in mechanical, structural engineering or similar /8+ preferred
  • At least 5 years new product development experience preferred
  • Engineering analysis – Structural design, strength and cost optimization, material selection, and FEA analysis
  • Proficiency in new product development processes
  • Innovative, think creatively, be hands-on and mechanically inclined
  • Ability to generate concepts and create physical, testable prototypes
  • Expert Proficiency in CAD and 3-D modeling, Inventor preferred
  • Solar PV and UL2703 code application experience and knowledge preferred
Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Structural, Civil Industrial Engineering or similar required, Master of Science in Engineering preferred

Graphic Designer

The Graphic Designer provides support to the Marketing Department to design and develop product and brand identity by creating and assembling images and graphics for websites, print and social media, product packaging and displays. Experience with photography and videography a plus.

 

Responsibilities / Duties:
  • Design assets for printed documents, company website, and email and social media.
  • Implement and maintain brand design standards.
  • Consistently maintain company webpage materials, providing releases of information, etc.
  • Create brochures, presentations and adhere to brand guidelines.
  • Design, develop and maintain company website.
  • Creation of visual presentations utilizing PowerPoint
  • Ability to multi-task, juggling multiple priorities simultaneously and change priorities in a moments’ notice.
  • Provide additional administrative support as needed.

  • Associate degree

  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite’s Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign Programs is REQUIRED
  • Excellent graphic design skills, people skills, decision making, self-motivation and pro-activity
