The Fort Wayne Airport sought to double the size of six existing identical carports while also adding solar PV to both existing structures and new extensions. With curved metal roofs requiring a low-profile, lightweight solution that followed the contour of the carport design, Unirac proposed its MetalX system for its flexibility, light weight, and rapid installation. After intensive testing by engineers at Unirac’s R&D lab confirmed compatibility with the carports’ curvature, installation proceeded smoothly. Unirac’s Field Support/Product Training expert also went on-site to help the crew prepare. The result was a 552 kW system comprising 1,380 photovoltaic cells, installed efficiently with expert guidance and minimal disruption to operations.
MGM Resorts International set out in 2014 to solidify its leadership in renewable energy by developing Mandalay Bay into a solar showcase. MGM required a partner who could execute flawlessly in the face of significant challenges such as roof heights of up to 115 feet, complex wind conditions, and a bustling convention center that could not cease operations. Leveraging over 25 years of engineering expertise, Unirac delivered a hybrid design combining limited ballast with adhered attachments. The project’s success hinged on precision: meticulous CAD layouts guided every attachment, while real-time on-site support ensured flawless installation. Unirac also coordinated material deliveries to meet the logistical and safety constraints. The outcome was a 6.4 MW system with 23,000 RM10 bays, covering 20 acres of rooftop. The site, hailed as one of the largest and most innovative solar projects, attracted luminaries like President Barack Obama and showcased the economic viability of large-scale commercial solar.
A massive 3.4 MW flat-roof solar project in Central Valley, California, presented unique challenges: weight restrictions, low attachment counts, and stringent FM Global insurance requirements. Unirac’s sales and engineering teams flew to the site early in the design phase, collaborating closely with the contractor to optimize materials, labor, and engineering. Through rigorous testing, input, and validation, Unirac ensured FM Global approval and delivered a 3.395 MW system with lower weight and significant time savings—delivered in less than two weeks. Unirac’s comprehensive planning and expert on-site support provided peace of mind to the contractor, resulting in a cost-effective and high-performance installation.
