Unirac chosen by Chico Electric to contribute to 447 kW Butte Community College project

ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO, July 1, 2009 –Unirac, Inc. is pleased to have been chosen by Chico Electric to play an integral role in the second largest community college solar installation in the U.S. to date, at Butte-Glenn Community College located in Oroville, California. The 447 kW milestone project on multiple ground and roof arrays provides nearly 25 percent of the campus’ power.

With 2,418 panels to support and a variety of roof and ground challenges to contend with, Unirac performed custom engineering analysis of the structures to match the best products with each application. In Butte College’s second phase of solar integration, Unirac provided three distinct PV mounting solutions, a non-penetrating SolarMount™ system for the standing-seam roofs on the college’s maintenance building and two U-LA (Unirac Large Array) ground mounts located next to the gymnasium and water treatment plant.

According to Rich Hawkins, Director of Solar Sales at Chico Electric, “Unirac was chosen for this project because they are a great partner to work with in getting costs to match the expectation of the purchaser. We’ve worked with Unirac on several projects in the past two years, and they consistently deliver products that are sturdy and robust, all key attributes of a racking system that satisfies our customer’s expectations.”

Unirac’s Custom Solutions Division designed the U-LA racking technology to accommodate an irregular site next to the gymnasium. The Division develops solutions and provides on-site installer training and racking design to maximize power density of each custom PV system. Chico Electric and Butte College benefit from low installation costs and a dedicated, professional service and support staff.

“Unirac has adopted a whole new methodology of supporting our customers by developing a dedicated group to support large project customers,” said Douglas May, Unirac CEO. “We are thrilled to be a part of Butte College’s green initiative and look forward to providing Chico Electric with industry-leading solutions for their next PV challenges.”

More than 20,000 students attend Butte College annually making the community college one of the largest campuses in California. Founded in 1967, Butte College is committed to maintaining national sustainability leadership with a goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2015.
